If you’re using Stripe Tax to calculate sales tax, you can still connect your Stripe account to Numeral. This setup is limited, but it allows you to continue managing sales tax within Stripe while leveraging Numeral for filings and compliance. You can connect your Stripe account to Numeral and continue using Stripe Tax for sales tax calculations, but only in a limited capacity. When using Stripe Tax, we currently support charges captured through:
  • Stripe Invoicing
  • Stripe Billing (for subscriptions)
  • Stripe Elements
  • Stripe Checkout (with invoice creation enabled)
  • Stripe Payment Links (with invoice creation enabled)
This article highlights important considerations to ensure your Stripe tax settings stay aligned with filings processed through Numeral.

Stripe Checkout

Stripe Checkout is supported when invoice creation is enabled on the Checkout Session. The invoice does not need to be sent to the customer — it only needs to be created.

Invoice creation

Enable invoice creation when creating a Checkout Session via the invoice_creation parameter.
Checkout Sessions without invoice creation enabled will not be captured by Numeral.

Stripe Payment Links are supported when invoice creation is enabled on the Payment Link. The invoice does not need to be sent to the customer — it only needs to be created.

Invoice creation

Enable invoice creation on a Payment Link via the invoice_creation parameter.
Payment Links without invoice creation enabled will not be captured by Numeral.

Key Limitations

1. Tax Settings for New Registrations

You will be responsible for turning on tax collection in Stripe for every jurisdiction where you have an active sales tax account.
  • For new registrations, be sure to start collection on your first day of liability.
  • To find your liability start dates, log in to Numeral → go to Jurisdictions in the left menu → review the Liability start column under Processing and Registered.
If you don’t enable tax collection at the correct time, you may end up paying sales tax out of pocket.

2. Product Categorization

You’ll also need to make sure your products are properly categorized in Stripe. Product categories determine how items are taxed and can significantly impact your tax calculations.
